MY WAY UP TO BECOMING 1st DSC LEAD at Uganda Institute of Information and Communication technology.
THE START!
It was a very traumatizing but interesting time especially with the pandemic that had struck the universe but never the less it still opened up a fabulous opportunity.
The DSC(Developer Students Clubs) applications forms popping in by early April and on receiving links, there was no looking back. I started straight away with working on the application plan, and also the application process beginning.
Well, i had a couple of friends who were in the same shoes as me, we were 3 and definitely all being first time lead applicants at our Campuses, we had to leverage through all the possible ways to get our slots right.
THE APPLICATION PROCESS!
The application process begins and we start filling the DSC forms, consulting one another in the process and as well reaching out to the top dogs in the game like Solomon Opio(GDG cloud kampala lead), Trevor Atwijukire(former DSC lead) Asa Lugada(GDG lead) who gave us enormous knowledge on how to ace the application process. A point came when i had to make a 30 second video speaking about my self and how i am willing to help my community just when i become a lead, and damn it took me a whole week making several videos before i can choose one that i felt suited the application well.
I gather all necessary requirements like quick labs account, all links to github, twitter, linked in, Facebook, etcetera.
All my social media accounts had to truly be updated all the time to maintain latest information that is relevant to the requirements of the application. Then i finally submit the application!!
THE INTERVIEW
This was the time when you had to truly show 100% potential for the your positon, it was quite short and still tricky at the same time though the interviewer was impressed with my approach, but it wasnt 100% GURANTEE that i had made it through!
THE WAIT!
So after all the frustrations and all the difficult times doing the application, well, i had to wait in for the time when i expect victory or failure , and guess what, i was among the successful people to make it to being a DSC lead at my campus. So i start by checking on fellow applicants and there was no difference, we all had made it.
THE VICTORY
Finally i become lead of UICT 2020–2021 and still running to date. Am glad to be a lead for my campus and all i can say is that its just the beginning in the tech journey but neither is it a bad one, More victories ahead and more growth in tech is yet to showcase in the future!!
